Main Goals:

In addition to teaching the units and curriculum, I have 3 main goals I would like to focus on:

 

1.  Increase student nutritional knowledge--grades 5th-8th.

 

This year all students will be participating in a nutrition unit.  The last couple of years I have found that students are lacking the basic fundamental knowledge regarding the food plate and nutrition science.  By the time we get to 8th grade there is just too much to cover.  The result is that student's are overwhelmed and turned off to this subject.  

 

The goal is to start Nutrition education younger so that students will hopefully get excited about nutrition, health, and wellness.  They will learn sooner, therefore develop better habits as they navigate through middle school.  Finally, they will have a strong base, by starting in the 5th grade, we can build upon that knowledge so that by the time they leave 8th grade, they are strong consumers and can make decisions based on their knowldege and understanding  of how their choices and decisions will impact their overall health and wellenss.  

 

2.  Increase overall physical activity and wellness.

3.  Increase knowledge, skills, and tools to manage stress and overall Mental Health.
